National Programs
There are several national programs in Delta Sigma Pi that are of special
importance. Inasmuch as all chapters participate in them, each member of the
Fraternity should become familiar with them. Only those national programs that have
become more or less standard ones in Delta Sigma Pi are described in this listing.
Chapter Efficiency Index:
The Chapter Efficiency Index, a web-based program, is the method of formal communication between collegiate chapters and
the national Fraternity. The index awards points in eleven sections representing basic operational requirements for
collegiate chapters during an academic year. The sections identify specific requirements in recruitment, membership,
finances, professional and service programs, and leadership development. These sections reflect the practice of
essential business principles and operations expected of each chapter as part of our professional business Fraternity,
as well as the professional and leadership development opportunities for each member.
Points in each section are awarded at a value per six month period or in some cases, annually. The annual goal and
expectation of all collegiate chapters is 100 points for the fiscal year July 1-June 30. Obtaining 100 points will
demonstrate that the chapter met all fundamental business requirements for successful operations by the due dates,
and conducted a sufficient number of member development programs reported by the required due dates.
Grand Chapter Congress:
The national convention of Delta Sigma Pi, which is held every odd-numbered year, in
the month of August, is called the Grand Chapter Congress. Each collegiate and
alumni chapter of the Fraternity, in good standing, is entitled to be represented by
an official delegate and as many other members of their organization as care to
attend. The laws of the Fraternity are enacted at this meeting of the Grand Chapter,
and the Grand President and other members of the Board of Directors, as well as Regional
Vice Presidents are elected at this time.
Several hundred Deltasigs attend the Grand Chapter Congress. During these 4-5 days,
very extensive educational, legislative and social programs are conducted, which not
only enlighten the members on the operation of the Fraternity as a whole, but also
help to bind them into one unit Fraternally. The next Grand Chapter will be at the
Hilton in the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida August 8-12, 2007.
Scholarship Key:
High scholastic attainments are recognized by Delta Sigma Pi by the awarding of a
Scholarship Key. These keys are awarded to the graduating senior in commerce and
business administration who ranks highest in each class. The promotion of high
scholarship began with the giving of the first key in 1912, and since then it is
awarded in all colleges having chapters of Delta Sigma Pi.
Conferences, Schools and Academies:
Delta Sigma Pi sponsors conferences, schools and academies designed to benefit
collegiate and alumni Brothers. These meetings focus on providing direction,
motivating leadership, providing educational material and encouraging involvement
consistent with the purpose of this fraternity. Each meeting strives to enhance the
personal growth and development of the individual student or alumnus while providing
networking opportunities to improve and grow our individual collegiate and alumni
chapters.
The Fraternity meets these educational goals through Leadership and Excellence
Academies for Deltasigs (the LEAD program) which encompasses Provincial Conferences,
Schools, the Ultimate Leadership and Excellence Academy for Deltasigs, and regional and
area conferences. These educational meetings differ in length of the program and in
whether their primary focus is personal development or chapter development. Some
educational meetings are devoted solely to the personal development of the
individual while other programs are designed to aid chapters in conducting their
programs and activities.
LEAD Provincial Conferences are conducted annually between November 1 and March 30
in each Province. LEAD Schools are scheduled during the school terms opposite the
LEAD Provincial Conference. The LeaderShape® Institute for Deltasigs
is conducted annually during the summer. Regional and area conferences are
scheduled throughout the year whenever the Provincial or Regional Vice President determines
that an educational conference would be beneficial to the chapters in that area.
Consultation Program:
One of the services offered to collegiate chapters is the consultation program of
the Central Office. The Director of Chapter and Expansion Services and the
Educational and Leadership Consultants are trained in all areas of chapter operations
and periodically visit each chapter to answer any questions and to assist with any
problems a chapter might have. The Chapter Consultants, especially, spend a majority
of their time during the academic year consulting with numerous chapters across the
country.
